I'm looking to replace my 88 head unit with with a 99 c5 Head Unit(w/cd) anyone do this before? I was wondering if it would be a direct plug in or not.
I would think that the '99 has the Theft Lock on it. I don't know how you would get around that.
Also, on the later C4s, the head unit was nothing more than a remote control. The receiver (brain) was behing the passenger seat. The C5s might be the same was. Many GMs are like that including the '88-'94 C/K trucks.
In other words, anything is possible, but don't hope for a direct plug in.
Two totally different systems. Not compatable at all. In fact the C4 bose is only compatable with other C4 bose systems. There is nothing standard about it other than the antenna connection.
Not to mention it is complete junk. If something is broke either swap it out for a used bose of same type or replace everything. You can't even re-use the speakers with an aftermarket head.
There is a ton of info on this in the audio section of the forum.
