I've been chasing the same problem for years! No fire at the plugs. No start. Multiple opti changes. Usually runs for a while, then dies. And no codes, No SES. Finally out of desperation. I carried it to a pro. (that term used loosly) He's had it for 9 months now. Finally after pressure from me, he showed me a reading on a fancy, expensive scanner that shows a quad fault on module 2 & 3. The ECM was sent off and checked good. What could this mean? My options are to pick it up, and try to fix it myself, now that I know what the problem is, let him continue on (it's taking too long) or carry it to the Chevy dealership. (sticker shock) I sure would like to get it back running normally. Anyone ever heard of this?
QDM2 controls the torque converter and evap canister. Check for shorted/grounded wiring. Check to see if your canister/lines are clogged or broken. Clogged lines cause all kinds of problems.
QDM3 controls the fan relays and A/C clutch. Again check for shorted or grounded wires.
The ECM will report a quad fault if one (or more) of the circuits it controls are shorted to ground (or otherwise drawing too much current). Check the wiring and the solenoids/relays that are controlled by the ECM.
Any luck? I am having similar issues. Here's what I am dealing with.
Please help! I have a near mint condition 1994 corvette with 67,000 miles on it. I need to find out why it decided to stop running. It all started a couple months ago. I was an hour into a 4 hour trip and it just stalled out as if the fuel was cut off. I read somewhere that it could be the ASR so I turned it off and it ran the rest of the way. Same thing happened on the way home but the ASR was already off. I let it sit for a while and it drove home just fine. Car ran good for a while after that.
I had to disconnect the battery because I was going on a long trip (without the car) and I didn't want the high performance ecu to drain the battery. When I got home the car ran for about 15 minutes and sputtered out and would not run after. I changed the injectors and the fuel filter. The problem persisted but I noticed that an electronic clicking sound was coming from somewhere near the injectors but I couldn't find where. Somehow this car isn't getting fuel and I would really appreciate any help you guys can offer. Thank you.
My problem has gone on for 5 or more years. I would work on it for awhile. (throw parts at it), then due to frustration, or lack of money, just quit and leave it sit in the garage for a while. Before this when i had a problem this car was good a showing codes, showing me where the problem was. Now. NO CODES. SES is not lit. I do have a service ABS, and service ASR. I'm thinking the machanic who has had it for the past 9 months is stumpped too. Hello Chevy dealership. I'm out of options. If I ever do resolve it, I'll post my solution. Hang in there TomDoc, and good luck.
Nine months at a shop with no results is 8 months and 3 weeks too long. Take it to someone competent or get a replacement ecm and do it yourself. Maybe the ecm is intermittantly bad.
