Default Quieter exhaust?

Greetings all, I currently have a Borla cat back on my 88 and I'm looking to possibly quiet it down without changing the entire exhaust. I've read here that addiing a muffler would do it but do I need 2 mufflers or one because its not true dual exhaust? Also, any advice on which brand muffler to get would be great.

Thanks for the help!

Your '88 has 2 mufflers; very likely installing OEM mufflers will quiet it down and eliminate the "drone".

If you have a cat back system, why dont you try to trade it to someone with a really nice stock cat back system... Guessing there would be guys filling your inbox to jump on that...

Not a bad idea either.

Well Ive spent about $1500 on this subject. From Dynamat extreme, and double pad on top of it. I put on "walker quietflow" mufflers, and under coated with "Lizard Skin". All this cut the road noise tremendously, but did nothing for the drone. Then one evening I was contemplating the situation, and came to the conclusion, the gas tank area works like a big speaker box.

So heres where I got crazy. I went to the hardware store and got 2 cans of "fire block" expanding spay foam, and filled the area between the gas tank, and interior wall. The sound difference is night, and day. My wife wouldnt even ride in the car before this. I know this was an extreme measure, and most people wouldnt even consider this, but if you really want the noise gone, this will do it. Also after the foam cured, I cut off the access, and painted over it with lizard skin, and painted it all blk satin.

The second thing that seemed to help was clocking the mufflers "in" towards the center of the car. Im not sure how much the improvement was cause I had already done the other stuff, but it did seem to be even quieter. Now when I give it gas, all I hear is motor. h

Heres some pics (look for the orange foam) http://s1310.photobucket.com/user/he...?sort=3&page=1

I put Dynomax VT's on mine. They sound great and no drone! Better that the stock which is too quiet!
