Default Reverse Lights.

So after changing out my reverse lights, i had to check to make sure they worked fine. Well when i put my car into reverse the reverse lights dont come on. My automatic shifter is slightly off though, it sits infront of R a little bit, and then when i switch to N it sits between R and N, but when it sits in nuetral the reverse lights come on the whole time. Would you say this is a problem with the shifter being mis aligned? Anyone know how I can fix this?

Jack the car up, crawl under the driver's side where the shift cable attaches to the transmission shift arm. Loosen the adjusting nut (15 or 17mm). Put the shifter in park, put the transmission in park. Carefully tighten up the nut without having the pin move in the slot. Have fun driving.

The adjusting nut is a 15mm. I had a problem with mine because as I tightened the nut the trans shifted out of Park. The shifter is locked into Park by the detent on the shifter, so the cable broke. I advise shifting into 1 to do the final tightening on the nut.

The backup lights are turned on/off by a switch mounted on the side of the shifter. It is adjustable. That switch does multiple other things, such as tell the car if the shifter is in Park or Neutral.
