Default 1985 Electrical Issue

Hello, I have the weirdest thing going on with my 85. It drives fine, everything is working properly, no idling issues. I will be driving and the check engine light comes on and the stereo turns off. I look at the dash and it says 19v. Has anyone seen anything like this? Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

If its a factory radio, pull it and check the wiring, someone may been monkeying around in there. If its and aftermarket radio, pull it and check the wiring, some monkey may have installed it. Look for bad connectors, barespots on wires, etc.

Chase the power supply in particular, i think it runs to a junctions where it ties to several other elec systems. Also pay close attention to the grounds. Clean the contact surfaces very well, use diaelectric grease on everything, and tighten them.

Thanks. The alternator was shot (bad voltage regulator). I'm glad it wasn't deeper issues.
