Governor issue
I have -87 vette with automatic transmission. Original th700 was shot and now I have a new repaired th700. It has vette internals, except the governor is not vette version. So the springs and weights are not correct.
Original transmission was sold away so I can't take the governor from it.
Does anybody know what are the correct weights and springs for -87 vette? Springs are color coded, right?
That would really help me, because now the shifts are so terrible. I need the original point for reference for further chances.

Also if somebody wants to sell me original vette governor with original springs and weights, would be nice too. The governor gear can be broken. I can pay with paypal, for example.

Your gonna need more than a "vette" governor.
I suggest looking around for a shop that has a trans dyno to help you setup the valve body and gov.
Otherwise its a lot of testing to find the right combination of springs and weights.
Plus the governor is buried behind the exhaust system making access very difficult when the pipes are hot.

We already changed one of the springs....

Nobody knows the original weight of the weights and the color codes of the springs? I have some extra springs that I can try.
I believe the original shift points are around 4800rpm at WOT? That's what I'm looking for.

Not to hijack this thread, but what do the shift points feel like with a non Corvette transmission? My 87 seems to have ok WOT shift points, but at light throttle it's terrible. I've suspected that maybe it had a non Corvette transmission put it at some point before I got it.

Not to hijack this thread, but what do the shift points feel like with a non Corvette transmission? My 87 seems to have ok WOT shift points, but at light throttle it's terrible. I've suspected that maybe it had a non Corvette transmission put it at some point before I got it.
We changed the lighter spring to little heavier, result is that 1-2 shift way too early ja 2-3 shift didn't move at all.
I just need to get the vette governor or at least to know the correct weights and springs. I have tried to google as best as I can.

5200 is correct for a stock L98. 6000 will not hurt the motor, it just stops making power at around 4800. Shifting at 5200 keeps the motor in its power band.

Scroll down past the tranny mounts and you will see a corvette governor. I have used this one and it works fine. You can buy their spring kit if you need to refine it a bit.
