87 C4 Cluster issue
I just picked up a 1987 C4 that was salvaged out and I am going to rebuild it.
The Instrument cluster is showing all lit up, but no numbers.
It is like the LCD blanched out.
Anyone experience this or can shed some light?
The part time dealer I got the car from was going to rebuild it for his wife, but has too many irons in the fire, so he let it go for a good price.

Kinda looks like someone replaced the bulbs in the cluster and installed bulbs that are way too bright. Washing out the numbers and lighting up things that should be dark until you select them. Like the miles. Should show either range or trip, not both. That's what I'd check for first on mine. Have an 87 also.

The polarizing film that sits on top of the LCD's looks like it has been faded by the sun. Checkout www.batee.com for some great how to videos for fixing the displays.

my 87 had the same problem but only in the speedo section. batee.com and new polarization film and I can read everything good as new!

Thanks for the info.
I tried the sunglasses test and the polarizing film is bad.
I think there are some LED's out too.
Luckily I have a spare cluster the previous owner was going to use to replace. We'll see.

You can get new LCD lenses on ebay for $99.00 each, they carry all three.....WW
