So, once i get to tuning my new '90 six-speed, will i be able to disable this 1st to 4th gear shift that my computer seems to think i need? it is somewhat annoying, you never know when it is going to happen. Yea i heard of disconnecting the connector at the tranny, but i want to take it out in the chip. I just need to get a memcal adaptor, and the correct ECM def file, then i am good to go.
Well i figured this out for myself. Surprised that nobody else has, or at least could have said something.
The anser is yes, you can eliminate this function in the ECM code. But is it is not called CAGS, but rather "CARS", for Computer Aided Ratio Selection. Just need to set the enable temp to max, or like 300F, so it will not activate. Mine was set to 50deg C, which is like 122F. So very easy to do. gotta love this chip thing!
Mike
Probably because as you already said and dismissed; most find it easier to just disconnect the CAGS plug
I suppose it depends on whether you mind possibly getting your hands dirty, briefly, or not, personally I'd sooner get under the car, gives you chance to check everything else while your there...
