Is this wiring running from the intake plenum sensor suppost to connect to the EGR solenoid? Its not showing the sensor in the plenum and the connector for the solenoid in my shop manual which is strange. I tried connecting them but its a no go. If there suppost to any one know what the wording is for this cord so I can get a new one?
The Manifold Air Temperature (MAT) sensor is located in the bottom of the plenum. It has a 2 pin connector with Black and Tan wires. Your second picture shows the EGR solenoid. It has a 2 wire connector with Gray and Pink/Black wires.
Gray and Pink/Black wire connector for the egr solenoid. Then find the intake air sensor near the base of the distributor. Ive found a few connections in that area mostly just for the distributor but Ill look deeper to see if the connector might have fallen back behind the engine.
hi Booncky if you'r using an 85 C4 FSM go to page 197 -1 here you can see the place where the EGR solenoid goes.EGR solenoid is operated by a two terminal connector.there is a loom near passenger side head, from wich 3 connectors go to the distributor area:
2 terminal connector goes to EGR solenoid (the braket is on the passenger side of plenum)
1 terminal connector goes to EGR diagnostic switch (this is mounted directly on the EGR valve)
2 terminal connector goes to MAT manifold absolute temperature (your pic #1)

Ya at this point with the over all condition of the plastic covers running the length of wires there do for a change. Plus I can change them to red to match the interior of the car for show. When I was under the car I even found the knock sensor and connector had melted. One there was no heat protector like my manual said there should be and two, there wasn't even much left of the plastic cover. Plus Im finding a lot of grounds that aren't even attached to the heads and what not. I figure with a bit of effort its WAY WAY cheaper in the long run then a new wiring harness all together. Plus I just learn more this way about my corvette. So far I am pretty fortunate that no one has jumped around and molested anything.
With the stories I constantly hear about power drains and what not Im sure its do to bad wiring or faulty connectors.
do yourself a favor and relocate the EGR solenoid to the rear of the air pump or alt bracket for future access. Vac lines & wire.
The 85 EGR solenoid attaches to the right rear corner of the intake manifold using one of the manifold bolts. If the bracket is still there, it's actually out of the way and easy to get to.
That sensor is the MAT (Manifold Air Temperature) also called IAT (Intake Air Temperature). It is used by the ECM to tell when the engine is hot enough to turn on the EGR.
Im skimming through my shop manual but I think I keep passing the picture of where the wires are and how they route to them. Ill double check the wiring diagrams in the back. If I find something as far as an answer Ill post it to try and help.
