I keep getting coolant drips under the car at the about the front cross member. I had the intake off and then on, but it did this before the intake replacement.
Last fall I also replaced the both the upper and lower radiator hoses and had no problems.
In the spring is when I first noticed this drip especially after running the engine for a while.
I think that it may be the water pump, but can't really see it. I felt on the backside of the pulley and didn't seem to find any coolant.
On the 84, what is the most typical place for coolant to leak at a slow pace when sitting parked for a few days?
Thanks,
Glen
Easiest way to find a coolant leak or any leak for that matter is to put dye in it, use an UV flashlight and it glows bright so you can follow the trail of the leak and pinpoint where it's coming from.
You can get the kit at autozone or most any parts place.
Check the back of your intake manifold passenger side near the distributor as well, mine was leaking very very slowly from the fitting where the heater hose connects to the intake manifold.
Pressurize the cooling system. Since your leak is external, you should find it quickly. Many radiator shops will do a free test, or you can rent the tool (simple pump that fits on the fill neck).
This may be the fastest way to confirm or eliminate a probable spot for this drip -especially since it is at the front of the engine.
I'll start here and it may also help me see any other location better if it isn't the water pump.
