How do you remove the cargo shade??

How do you remove the cargo shade??

This is pretty embarassing to have to ask this being that I like to consider myself a mechanic.....
But I don't have a clue as to how to remove the rear cargo shade. :nonod: The shade on my 92 and then 95 Z28's would come out pretty easily as one side was spring loaded. I tried this on my Vette and no luck (I didn't want to "force it":smash: ) I've looked in my Helm's manual and found nothing. I want to replace my carpet tomorrow (IF I get my car from the paint shop) is why I want to remove it.

Anyone.....

Start by removing the rear trim...back and sides. Theres some bracketry to remove. Once you remove the trim, it will be easy.

I replaced my rear carpet without removing it. I'm sure it would have been easier to remove the shade, but I couldn't figure it out either.

remove the plastic trim on sides and back. then you push the shade to one side as it is spring loaded. nothing to it once the trim gives you access.

I just did this on my 1990. All that is required is for you to yank on the stupid thing really hard directly to the front of the car. There weren't any springs, it was just clipped in there. My friend and I eached grabbed a side and pulled foward as hard as we could in a violent motion. I know it doesn't sound normal, but nothing broke and we got it out. I was actaully just about to cut it out with a hacksaw because mine needed replacing, but just as I was about to cut I decided on a whim to really reef on it, and low and behold it worked!

I've asked this question in the past also. The answer I got was to slide it to one side and gently pry it out with a screwdriver. Since I had fixed my carpet with it in, I've yet to try this. I noticed my carpet is starting to fall again so I might have to go back in there later. :mad Apparently it will just snap back in.

I took mine out to put more tension on it and also to tap into my antenna control to mount an up/down switch for use with cd's. I believe in 93 they changed and are of the spring loaded type...like a kitchen shade only one side is spring loaded. it is a tight fit but 93 and up I am sure you don't want to yank on it. I have a pic of it somewhere and will look this week and post next weekend. hope it helps to know an answer is on the way.
