Replaced distributor in '89 L98. Set timing with plug disconnected, set at 6 BTDC, reconnected plug, shut engine off. Restarted engine, it surges and then stalls as the idle gets too low.
Seems to get better as it warms, but it never did this before
the new dist. ?
I avoid connecting or dis-connecting any sensors with the key on, unless it's called for. With the engine off, I disconnect the "plug", then start and set the timing. I then tighten the distributor down, and recheck the timing; in case it gets moved during the tighten. Shut the motor down, reconnect the "plug", and disconnect the Negative battery cable to clear the codes it will set. Of course you then reconnect the battery cable and drive the car. After you get the car up to about 40-45 MPH, the idle should reset its self. Hope this helps.
