Default Fuel pump question?

Hello all, new to the forum. I need to know if it would cause a problem if I put a high volume fuel pump on with the stock regulator? I do plan on a rebuild in the near future, so should I stay with stock flow or high flow. The car is an 87 with D port heads and some porting on the stock intake. :seeya

Sorry know one has posted a response yet. Maybe if the right person reads this. As far as posting pics you can do it from the forums home pages if they are open to newbees yet. I'll try to post a link to instuctions if I find them.

Here you go but I think the homepages are still shut down. http://www.corvetteforum.net/c5/markc5/helpdoc/pg1.html

If nobody else answers you I would call http://www.tpis.com tomorrow and ask them. I put one of their high volume Bosch pumps in but as you can see from my signature I have some mods.

Hey scorp, yeah I know. Feel like a lowlife, but I had this 300 mhz compaq,
and dial up. Just got a 1.7ghz sony and high speed so I can post happily now. Nice job with your vette. I'll be doing mine this winter. :D

It shouldn't be a problem if you're regulator is in good shape, I ran an Accel Hi-Volume pump for a while on a stock regulator. Now I have a Walpro 307 installed and it kicks butt. Someone sells a kit that includes a new relay, wiring, etc. (Ebay I think) to get better voltage directly to the pump. Inadequate voltage to the pump results in below spec performance. If you do go to a higher volume pump, make sure you upgrade your fuel ckt if the pumps electrical specs differ very much from the stock pump. HTH

Yes, Mark84_L383) it does seem the better the voltage to the pump the better it works, if you have ever taken one apart ther are two condutors funny shaped on springs that contact the pump and after time they grind down and it seems it would be less efficient just my two cents, thanks for the reply

I don't know how everyone could do all these mods without upgrading the stock fuel pump. Ask TPIS or any other builder and the stock L98 pump stinks. Least expensive stock replacement is to order the '86-'87 in tank pump for a Grand National from your GM dealer. It's like 65 bucks and a direct match. Get a new tank filter and pulsator. This pump is supposedly good to 400 HP. I don't think it can quite handle 400. I'm adding a second pump from Carroll Supercharging. (fits behind license plate.)

We be pumpin' juice now, baby.
