The battery light comes on when the alternator isn't charging the battery. Flickering is a symptom of an intermittent condition. It could be a loose connection on the alternator, the plug in or the red output wire, or brushes in the alternator that are at the end of their life.
Mine did that when the regulator in the alternator was going. It would charge up to 16.7 volts (yikes!) and the battery light would flicker. That is not good. After a new alternator, everything is okay.
Mine is doing the same thing with the flickering, another symptom is that my temp. Gage always indicates LO or 299? I chanced the sensor twice but still no-go. I have been using the oil temp. Gage and it generally stays between 180 to 200, meanwhile the car runs great.

Was the sensor you changed on the passenger side of the motor? I had a loose connection there last year and was getting wild temp readings.
