On the coolant line going to the fire wall i have a rubber nipple that hold the coolant in. I am not sure if that is how they are of if some one jerry rigged it.. any idea?
Red arrow on the left is where your cap thing is. Red arrow on the right is where the line connects to. Green arrow is where I had the end tucked out of the way while working on the engine.
The heater valve for the 85's is no longer available... so GM sells the one for the later model L98's with a plug on it. I have the same plug on my new unit. I think it was in late 86, when GM came out with the aluminum head L98, that this coolant circuit was added. If you look at later model L98 intakes there is rear coolant crossover support on the intake... our 85's did not have this...
I just put in the zz4 with the accel base and left the rear passages open. Am I ok?
By the way it looks on Scorps intake, which I assume is Accel,... looks like you just run a hose from the back of the intake to that plug on the heater valve. On our iron head L98's... rear coolant crossover isn't nearly important as with aluminum head L98's. So, if you installed a ZZ4 long block then yes... you would need to replicate Scorps setup to ensure adequate coolant flow :)
