87 Vert AFPR Question
Well he gave car back and said it has a problem and he didn't have the time to diagnose it. He said if you get on the throttle it coughs and sputters, well this problem didn't exist before. BTW new 383 with TPI, but all the issues I have had this hasn't been one.
I get the car home and put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail and I immediately see it is not holding pressure, so I am guessing at higher RPMS is it not getting enough fuel. So I pinch the return line at the gas tank and the fuel pressure rate of decrease slows, so I am figuring the FPR is hosed so I bought a new one and installed it, the same issue thought admittedly much slower rate of pressure loss.
I am at a loss on what is going on, I have looked for fuel leaks around the injectors and have found no signs of leaking, so is there a trick to installing a FPR?
Also brand new fuel pump, rebuilt (new) FIC Bosch 3 injectors. new fuel filter. I don't know why my fuel pressure is dropping now and with the old housing and FPR it was steady.
Finally, since this most recent work when I got on the gas yesterday the car sputtered and then coughed and big brown/black cloud came out of the exhaust. Shortly after that I picked up the following codes.
22, 33, 36, 42, 45 , I have to think they are all related back to the FPR.
Thanks again
Did you pull the vac. line on the FPR to see if there were any signs of gas?
First I'd clear the codes. Start it up and see if it throws the same codes again. My bet is one or more injectors is stuck or malfunctioning.
22,33,36 and 42 all at once could mean the last thing on all 4 codes trouble shooting tree......ECM.
Good luck, you've got some systematic trouble shooting to do.
Also check the fuel lines to rail connections for a small leak.
If you still have that 9th injector, remove and cap its line from the back of the fuel rail.
Snif the vac line from the AFPR for any trace of fuel odor.
