You aren't the first to have trouble with this brand of header..Read the link below...Send them back and get TPIS, Hooker, Stainless Works, EM, or one of the other brands known to work properly on our cars. You should not have to loosen the headers to get plugs in.......WW
You did not mention if you have a L98 or LT1
After market heads?
I cut my plug socket about 1" and use a 19mm or 3/4 box wrench
I have angle plug SBC heads converted to fit my LT1 block & as everyone tries to say the "cheap" OBX
Is so bad!! Mine fit perfect..
Even $2,000 headers are not perfect!! & can have fitmit issues!!

I have the OBX headers. I will tell you the area to work when placing the #2 spark plug is tight but can be done without loosing header bolts. In fact, they can all be done. You just have to figure out the right combination of rachets, shorty wrenches etc.
This is a friends car, I ported the stock LT-1 heads and added 2.00 1.56 valves.....#2 plug was tough and not sure how to keep it from burning/melting the wire boot.
Also the first bolt hole on #8 was not aligned and was a PITA to thread......

Are you positive your friend purchased the LT1 set
My # 2 is a lil over 1" away my # 4 is closer. but not close enough to get burnt. Both are well below the header tube
Maybe they have the wrong plugs? or defective plug thats very long?
I have super conductors the boots are very thick.
