So, Having some problems, question about the cap and Rotor install for my LT1. On my second kit and still just not fitting right, getting a little bit of rub at certain points and I could hear the metal shield rattle inside when it was put together, so I wanted to talk to MSD and see if that's normal and what I should do about it. Everything looks flush (base to isolator, isolator to cap etc)I had read about a square profile o-ring that was supposed to come with the kit (wasn't in mine) so i was wondering if that could be the solution.

1st call: spoke to Vic (or might have been Nick, was a bit tough to tell). Answer was "no it shouldn't do that" and the only offer was to put me through to RMA and replace the kit. Explained that I was concerned about the time to send this one back and wait for a new one. Asked about the Square profile o-ring: "Yes, that's in all the "new" kits, it Seals better." (the date on this kit was 3/18/2013) Over to RMA department, here I learned that it would take 7-10 days AFTER this one get through there receipt process. It was faster to return this one and order a new on through Amazon.

Had one 2 days later. (date on this kit was 9/11/12 - same contents, round o-ring) Similar fit, a little better though, would secure the metal shield, but still has some rotor rub.

Called MSD again, spoke to Justin. Said it was late there and no one was there but that I should call back in the morning and talk to either him or JD to see about what they could do. Asked about the square profile o-ring and if that might help the problem, he said :"Yes, that's in all the "new" kits, it Seals better." I asked about getting one out to me. Nope, all the pick ups are done for the day, try in the AM. They are open at 9 AM ET.

Called in the AM,Justin not there, spoke to JD. Explained the concern and the conversations, he took my info and said he'd find some information and call me back in 10 minutes. He was probably just getting in and spooled up for the day so fair enough.

3 hours later no call, so I call back. He's on the line so I'll call back again. 2 hours after that call again, spoke to another rep (didn't catch his name) who said JD was still tied up but asked if he could help. explained my concerns again. He said that he's send out another cap and rotor (dunno what that's do but..) then he asked about the pictures I had sent in. (I hadn't sent any or been asked to send any) he replied ohm, well send some pictures and we'll see what we can tell from those. Dunno how much there is to see... like I said everything sits flush, it ain't rocket science. Asked about the square profile O-ring. "yes, it's in all the new kits" I asked about the purpose and if it could help.. he said "it seals better". I asked if he could just shoot me one of those and I can try it (seeing as how it was supposed to come in the kit?) I explained my time concerns (the car has already been pulled apart a week... and I'm getting to the point of just going with the OEM cap and rotor, forget about the venting and call it a day) He said that it wouldn't get to me till next week anyway. Asked about overnighting it.. he laughed and said that there was no way they were going to overnight a $0.15 part. He told me to take pictures again and email them. When I explained that I was at work and the unit was at home, he replied that they were open until 7 PM ET and asked if I would be home by then. it'd be tight (usually 630 or so), but I reluctantly agreed. So I try to get home earlier, I take pics and call at 0630 ET. Get the answering machine that they are closed. Tried back a few more times, same thing.. guess they leave early on Thursdays...

I know they are on this forum.. but only found one post that they made... wonder if they actually pay attention...

Looks like they are a little more responsive via email. Still not much background or explanation on things. Only thing I got was to torque the cap down more. So I'll try... I'm a bit concerned about stripping them, the base is only aluminum ....

Torquing the cap worked.., I mean REALLY getting it on there tight. Stripped one in the process though. Got a little longer screw nod put a nut on the back. Loc-tited everything, hopefully it holds.

Looks like you are talking to yourself here, but I will add that I run their cap and rotor on my car, no fitment issues there, but obviously I have a different application on an 85....old school.......

However I hope the quality of your parts are much better than my MSD 6AL box was! It lasted roughly one year......just enough to keep it from being replaced by the warranty.....

I can't really tell any difference w/ or w/o it; don't suppose I could either way, but disappointed in the box for whatever that is worth to your thread here........good luck; hope it works out for you!
