I flew by that trailer before I realized it was a vette so I pulled over and waited on the shoulder IOT get the shot of the car... HENCE the solid white line on my left.
I was planning on zipping up and waiting at the LA welcome center IOT get better pics but this was how it looked 3 miles later...
It's a funny/odd/unusual thing to see....a 'Vette towing a real load. It certainly sparks some opinions. It's the same on the F-body forums about TA's and Camaros; "You can't tow with these cars!!"/
But you can. For the F-body, let's look at the drive train components;
SBC V8
700R4 trans
GM 10 bolt rear
10.5" disc brakes
^All identical to a 1/2 ton Chevy truck (which I think we can all agree, is acceptable for towing). Main difference is overall weight, wheelbase and brakes -the brakes on the F-bod are better.
Now lets look at the Corvette;
SBC V8
700R4/T-10/ZF6 trans
D36/D44 rear
12"+ disc brakes
Again same or stronger components as is found in a Chevy 1500. So what IS the towing capacity of a 'Vette? IMO it depends on the hitch and how well that spreads the load into the frame, and your tongue weight....but I'd feel comfortable towing 3000 lbs with a 'Vette (and the right hitch). My previous Trans Am regularly towed a 22' Aquasport boat....no problem at all, even at the ramp.
FWIW the owners manual that came with my 93 states on page 201, Your corvette is neither designed nor intended to tow a trailer.
But as already said, I would try a light load if I did not have anything else to tow with.
