Does anyone know anything about the effects on having a defective TV detent transmission cable ? My car does not seem to be going into that final overdrive gear and is shifting hard under normal acceleration. The car has 11,000 original miles on it and I have had it for nearly 27 years. I took the tune port apart and the TV cable off to service the the tune port. I notice my car runs at higher RPM's than normal. The RPM used to be a little over 1800 when traveling at 65 MPH and now it is turning over 2400-2500 RPM. I have a feeling the cable is defective any help would be appreciated.
So I am opening up the throtle to wide open and pushing in the adjuster so that the
cable ratchets out. I did this and the cable still has a tiny bit of slack about 1/4 inch
beyond the throtle linkage. how do you ratchet the throtle blades out of the adjuster ?
I am not sure of how to adjust the ratchet blades. ?
What are the ratchet blades , they are not mentioned in the article?

Throttle can only be turned one way ; from closed to OPEN
Follow the steps ;
Push on the "D" so you can push the inner cable fully back , fully open the throttle ( use the pedal if you can't work out what way to turn it ) ,
done
It sounds like you're not doing the steps correctly.
1 - Push on the D-shaped button and HOLD it in. If it's hard to push use a large screwdriver.
2 - Push the cable housing toward the rear of the car. That's the bullet-shaped plastic part the steel cable comes out of. It will click several times when you do this.
3 - Release the D-shaped button.
4 - Open the throttle blades as far as they will go. The stop should touch the top of the throttle body. You will hear clicks as the cable housing is pulled out of the locking mechanism.
5 - Release the throttle. The TV cable should be straight and tight.
