Indicated Cranking RPM?

My 1993 Ruby cranks over but does not start. Checked all fuses and they are good. I will now follow the diagnostic charts in the service manual to figure out what the problem is. While cranking the tach needle moves but does not go above "0". is that normal or there is no indicated RPM? i never paid attention to it before. .. she used to fire up so quickly.

The tach needle moving means the Optispark is putting out pulses. That is a Good Thing.

Check your fuel pressure.

You should also check for error codes in the ECM.

Thanks for the relpy. Just went out to try to start it again. Tach needle moves up to zero then stays there while cranking. I don't think I'm getting any spark.

Or fuel. When you first turn the ignition on without cranking the starter, do you hear the fuel pump run for 1 or 2 seconds?
