Default A/C Clutch 1990 Basic model

Clutch or compressor? If its the clutch how does one pull it off? Do you have to pull off the compressor to pull the pulley?

To remove the clutch you remove the bolt shown as item #1 in the
diagram. (Only torqued to 10 ft lbs).

Pull off Item #7 the clutch plate..
*** Beware there may be some shims stuck to the back side of the clutch
plate when you pull it off or they will fall off the nose of the compressor shaft.***
These shims look like washers and set the clutch plate air gap.
The shims are show as item #5. There may be more than one.

Remove the serpentine belt.

Remove the snap ring.
Pull the pulley off.
Disconnect the two wire plug for the clutch coil.
Remove a snap ring and pull the coil off.

If you install a new clutch assembly. Verify the clutch pressure plate
to rotor air gap is .02 inches plus or minus .006 inches. You have
to purchase new shims if the air gap is not correct.

Here's a picture of the clutch assembly. Disregard the information about
bending the AC hoses. That pertains to someone with a LT1 and not
a problem with the L98.
