I am in the process of doing some work on my 91 and have the front of the engine somewhat apart. There is not much room between the damper and the crossmember. I will measure the stock one and get back with you in a bit. I will try to get a pic too.

It appears that my 91 L98's stock damper is 7" in diameter. This pic shows the measurement from the crossmember to the top of the damper. Looks like there is not enough room for an 8" diameter damper to fit without raising the front of the engine by some means.
