Default Optispark

I have a 1992 Corvette that I have owned for six years. I replaced the Optispark when I bought the car, then 8,500 miles later I had to replace it again. I understand the issues with moisture and the water pump, are there viable options to Optispark that will extend the life and lower the maintenace cost?

THere are a lot of speculations but nothing concrete. The opti is designed to go 100k miles. Some go that long (and longer)...many (most aftermarket) don't.

This needs to be a sticky:

dont use any other parts than OE.

92-94:

Use AC Delco new old stock (note: do not use AC Delco remanufactured). Yes these cost about $700 last I checked.

Add vent kit when doing the install.

95-96: Use Delphi

Dont use MSD, Accel, 'Summit Racing Equipment', Dynaspark, made-in-china-ebay-special-fo-$69.

But I have had good luck so far with the Petris...its a real one with a custom made cap so it can be vented with the supplied real GM vent..

Good advice so far in the posts above. I'll add no matter what you buy, red Loctite the rotor screws.

...and add a nipple and length of hose to the water pump weep hole to direct any eventual coolant leaks away from the opti
