Default Left Tie Rod - Outer- - Bent??

New-To-Me - -86 convert -108Kmiles - Automatic

Does the left outer tie rod -driver's side - supposed to have a bend in it or is it supposed to be straight like the right side one?

Just about finished rebuilding the power steering rack - not too difficult but it is somewhat labor intensive - learned a few new profane words in the process - -LOL.

Anyway, noticed prior to starting the project that the left outer tie rod had an approximately 15 degree bend in it, just inboard of the adjusting threads.

The car drove straight - no problems at all. But, just wondering if this "bend" is a design intent or if my ride has been bounced off a curb at some earlier time.

Did a search and came up empty handed.

Thanks in advance.

Inner tie rod is the same side to side, your bend isn't "original"!

I realize the inner tie rods are identical but it's the left outer that is in question - you can see it anytime the hood is open - just have to look down -

Anyone else? I live in a remote area and will have to order parts - don't want to do that of they're not needed.

Thanks again -

The left and right outer tie rods should be identical. I find it hard to believe it could be bent. Can you post a picture? If the bend is inboard of the adjusting nut, then it's the inner tie rod. That is more plausible.

Yikes - Ah, Geeze - no need for a pic - it IS the inner tie rod! My apologies - must have been working on too many 60's muscle cars where the tie rod ends do have the external threads - -

Anyway, thanks to the folks above, life is a little bit better.

Never did enjoy egg on my face - especially world wide in front of a body of enthusiasts such as on this forum. I think I'll survive.

Thanks again folks. Geeze - -

Peace -
