Default Finally did it!!!

Tried to get the radiator and shroud off last year to clean the radiator and deciding it wasnt worth it, this summer was pretty hot, and traffic was worse. I got sick of having to turn off the AC in traffic, and driving was becoming a chore. My mechanic gave me a break and did it for $60, and the Radiator shop flushed and scrubbed my core for another $60. WOW! Now the car hardly gets to 150 degrees, whereas before 215-230 was the norm, and 250 in the afternoon heat in traffic with the ac on. Now the needle wont pass 1/3 of the gauge, and driving is fun again!!

Dont waste your time with Water Wetter, fan switches or other junk, it will not help you when the weather is really hot, and you are trapped in traffic.

Feels great doesn't it :D Did the same with my '90, plus added a Stewart Water Pump (flows about 40% more then stock) and a 180 stat. Seldom gets above 1/3 the guage. Has gotten to mid guage in stop and go traffic in 95+ temps. Before I did not dare to get it into stop and go traffic.

I said the same thing last year. I took out the radiator and A/C condensor last night. It was ugly in there. I cleaned it 13 mos. ago and had accumulated 1/2 a quart of crap since. I took photos and will decide whether they are clear enough to post. (no digicam here) The radiator was nasty. There was a caked on crust at the bottom of both sides. The inner was more caked than the fan side. I got the grinder out and drilled 5 holes in the lower shroud between the radiator and condensor. With the addition of a debris screen my hopes are to keep out the large stuff like leaves and wrappers so the dirt that accumulates can flow out the holes. The one thing I noticed when I cleaned that area is the water was sitting where the a/c sits and not where I drilled the holes. I didn't want the holes directly below either from fear of debris smacking a hole in the bottom of the radiator or a/c.

I hope this works at minimizing the crud build-up. :blueangel:
