Looking for an original GM egr valve NOS or used working.
I have tried to buy a new replacement one and none of them fit right.
The problem is the vacuum line connection comes out of the top and hits the plenum. I have tried grinding the bottom of the plenum and removing the gasket but it still hits.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Rockauto.com has the correct EGR valve on their site.
ACDELCO Part # 2145535 {#17113456, 19210674} One of our most popular parts

Yup, the rules in the Republik of Kalifornia combined with the lack of GM parts support for these older cars runs into a multitude of problems. I am running into major problems bringing 93 Camaro back into Kalifornia. The headers are emissions legal but bought before vendors started putting EO plates on the smog legal headers. I am unable to get it smogged as is and no smog legal headers are available that I can find. (the 93 had a slightly different configuration than the 94-97 which is still available).
I do believe the Kalifornia forks are not only doing a visual for the EGR but are running a test to make sure it is working.
I've already bought one of those from Rock Auto...junk right out of the box. No worky.
They sell 4 different EGR valves, I"m sure they will work with you to try to find the correct one for your engine. Have you tried that? If that fails,
maybe this guy will measure his EGR valves to find one that will work. Do you have the original Part Number? http://tinyurl.com/mombyq6

Smog test requirements vary by county in California. There are counties that do not require any testing. In my area they just asked if the EGR was there. It's buried under the Super Ram plenum so they couldn't find it.

Thanks for the tip, ordered one.
Looks like the right one, we will see.
Make sure you test the EGR valve diaphragm before you install it.
The GM or AC Delco parts seem to be OK, but I have had a bad one right out of the box from AutoZone and I have heard of others with the same issue with a new aftermarket part.
I just installed a new Borg Warner unit last month on my 85. It fit perfectly with the new gasket. Never thought that there could be an issue with fitment when the plenum comes down... that's just really poor product design.

For my '87,
I had one from Autozone that the diaphragm tested bad. I took it back and got another. The second one also tested bad plus it was not the right one in the correctly labeled box.
I got an AC Delco from Rock Auto and it worked fine.
