Well its hot as hell up here in the North right now. Last year on real hot days I could not sit in traffic with the AC on becasue the temp would rise to 230. This year I added a Griffin HP series radiador (the one with the 1 1/4" double row tubes), a Stewart hi flow water pump and a Stewart hi flow 160 stat. Without the AC on it runs cool in the 90+ degree heat. With the AC on in stop and go driving it got up to 220. This car puts out a massive amount of heat. Both fans turn on at 178 degrees. Standing beside the car, you can feel the heat billowing out.
Is it possible that my AC is creating too much heat? It seems to suck alot of power out of the engine when you turn it on and it vibrates at higher RPM. If you turn off the AC, the heat comes right back to 185 or so.
Anyone have any comments about this? There are no debris in the condensor or rad.
Are you running R12 or has it been converted to 134a? I wonder if a bigger, more efficient condensor would help lower the heat produced by the AC system? How about insulating the dryer/accumulator and hoses like people do with plumbing pipes? Just tossing ideas. Mine does the same thing.
Sounds normal for our L-98's though. Mine on the other hand never see's anything over 190 with the AC on in 95*+ weather. I have the Z51 up-grade which has a larger rad. It also has pusher and puller fans and an oil cooler all from the fact. I put in a 160* stat. and have a chip to turn on my fans at 180. My car could be a fluke though.
