My engine builder thinks he put in solid lifters by mistake. Is this possible?
Talked to my engine builder yesterday who rebuilt my L98 with LPE goodies and he told me the car would not run right. After trouble shooting he thinks he may have installed solid lifters??? Is this really stupid or could this be an "innocent" mistake? If he did install the wrong lifters, will it harm my new LPE 219 cam? He said he had the lifters sent to him, so he assumed they were the right ones. I'm starting to really worry that this new motor will be a POS!!

Take the valve covers off and find a fully closed valve. Press down on the push rod, you should feel it depress the lifter a little bit with a spring like action. If so you have hydrolic lifters.

If it's a solid roller lifter, it will not harm the cam at all, but it might cause burnt valves as hydraulic cams have minimal opening/closing lobe ramps...meaning that the slightest bit of a tighter than zero lash adjustment will keep a valve from closing.
I would think you would know from the noise it would make when you barely turn the rocker nut loose...there will be NO way to adjust to 1/4-1/2 turn preload without melting the headers and running like dog doodoo.

Some of the Crane solid's look just like a hydraulic at a glance. Could be an honest mistake, and I hope the cam is not a "cast" cam. I think LPE uses billet cores and if that is the case, then the cam is fine.
