Hey Guys, I am freshening up my 450 (4.165x4.125). The pistons had some wear, but the cylinders only had .001 wear, so I kept the 4.165 bore and got new pistons. So I will have one more build in it at 4.185. It got a real light hone and new crank, rings and bearings, timing chain ect. I reused alot of the parts that were real good like cam, lifters, AFR 245's and Crower billet rods. They were like brand new. You can see some major clearancing in the Bowtie block for the 4.125 stroke. The block has a low fill, it would have hit water to make it clear. But everything is coming together nicely.
The cam is a Crane 252/260 .714/.674 on a 112 LSA solid roller
I degreed the cam and it was 1 degree advanced. So I left the cam timing there.

Wow, just wow. Very impressive setup. I've got a few questions. Are you running any block fill? "low fill" Static compression ratio? Any work to the AFR heads? or out of the box?

It has a low fill of block filler. Compression is 12.25, it will run on pump gas up here with that compression. And the AFR 245's are out of the box.
And Willie, I don't think it will be running by July 4th. But it should be running soon!
Amazing how Jim makes this look so easy. I'm proud to have one of his engines in my car.
Yeah, I'm still working on that one. I think I have busted the record for Jim's slowest, smallest CID build by the most broke *** CF member, by far for his builds. That cam looks alien after staring at so many street friendly hydraulic cams.
I think with a stock tpi on a 450CI engine it wouldn't go over 2000rpm Actually it's getting the ported Miniram by Tony Mamo back on it (Mamoram) All of the ports flow between 400-410cfm. And a Monoblade T.B.
Is it common for the piston to wear faster than the cylinder walls?
What was the reason for the tear down? How long since the last build?
I went thru it mainly because it had a issue with the crank and damper from an old machine shop I used that honed the damper too loose, and made a mess out of the crank. With a 4.125 stroke, a 5.85 rod, the geometry isn't good. But I knew that going into it. I got 7 years of use out of it. They tend to wear pistons with all of the sideloading going on. The 200 shot of nitrous helps the wear along in it also. When you build this big of a SBC, you are trading long term durability for cubic inches and potential power. It's not for everybody, but it works for me.

Well Guys, it's completely assembled ready to go back in the car. I just need to take it off the stand and put the flywheel and McLeod dual disc on it. It should be running soon.

Looks great!! You did no upgrades at all? If so you are a better man than I. If I spend the time to pull it out I can't help myself from wanting just a little bit more.
I just put the AFR 245's on it not too long ago with the Crower shaft system. I haven't run it at the track since doing those upgrades. So it's a new engine combo I haven't really tried out yet. Everything is now fresh and new.
