Hello All,
I'm new to Vette's and I bought a 84 c4 fixer upper, with the CFI missing. I'm excited to get started on getting the engine going, what are my option for FI, and what other less expensive, i.e. rocker arms, cams, headers, and what not do you guys recommend. I am a retired Veteran, and this will be my first project.
84' isn't really supported (specifically) for forced induction or aftermarket upgrades. If you want to get more involved with the build, many have gone to later-model corvette hardware (heads/intake/roller block, intake manifolds, etc).
Of course, custom (and generic small block stuff) can also work, but you end Up doing a lot of leg work.
Nestor J V, first of all, , thank you for serving our country, and then, welcome to the world of Corvettes. Also, when posting a question, please only post in one section.
Now, are you asking about Forced Induction or Fuel Injection? I'm assuming that you are asking about fuel injection, since you say the CFI is gone. Please clarify. Next, what kind of goals are you looking for, and then, what is your budget?
Thank you all for responding.
I'm sorry, I meant fuel injection. I'm open to all suggestions. I have a budget of $3,000.00 -5,000.00. Obviously, I want to maximize the horsepower without dropping the mpg's too much.

Thanks for the clarification; you can likely find a complete TPI package to swap onto your car (from an 85' or newer corvette) for relatively cheap (if you shop around).
With your budget, maybe a roller block swap can be done at the same time? Really opens up options for valve train and cam options. Heck, look for a complete engine (used) out of a later model corvette! lol
Are you going to be doing the work, or would you have someone else doing the work under your guidance? How mechanically inclined are you? Do you turn wrenches and are not afraid to get greasy? How about electrical? I would suggest getting rid of the stock computer, since you will probably be using a different intake and have a different motor torque/hp-wise, and then, no other computer is going to have the same wiring harness connection as the '84, so you will either need to change the wiring harness or make an adapter.
Lol... If I wasn't handy, I wouldn't even try. I can fix anything in a home, work on various cars, (mostly Porsches), I do IT, business proposals, there's nothing that I'm afraid of tackling. Seriously. But I do take guidance and advice. This is my first Corvette project, and I have no clue where to start, unless I buy everything stock from the dealer, and that would be boring. I just want to work on the engine first and go from there. I am looking into what options I have and go from there and if get stuck, I have this awesome forum to turn to.
Well the options are almost endless. You could get a complete system from Summit or Jegs, or pick up a used system from Ebay. It all depends upon what you want to do. I went ahead and ported my Crossfire manifold, and bored out the throttle bodies, new computer, new wiring harness, new pistons, rods, rings, bearings, timing chain, aluminum heads, cam, headers, etc. I haven't finished yet, but it should run pretty well, once I'm done.
Nestor, Have you thought about a LS swap? If the the intake and other parts are missing and you want 400 HP, that swap would be a good option. And you will get better MPG. You can find LS in wrecked trucks, cars or buy them new from GM. Those are other option. The C4 is a great platform to start a performance buildup on.
