L98 Rebuild - Head Options
I have a couple of options and have read a ton of threads that all kind of go in circles.
Option 1 is to send my stock heads off to Lingerfelter and have them CNC ported and hand sanded for about $1700.
Option 2 is to go the AFR 195 route for about the same money.
AFR looks like the best overall choice but I am more concerned with final fitment and headers than power. I am considering the Hooker Super Competition or TPIS headers for my two options but am concerned with firment since the Exh ports are higher on the AFR heads.
Suggestions? Gotchas? Words of wisdom?
I am also looking at a Comp Cam Camshaft 218/224 .570/.560 LSA113
and need valve spring information as well. If I go with double springs and wind up selecting a lower lift cam in the end is there any adverse effect? Again I am thinking future without wanting to rework a bunch of stuff so double springs are a requirment unless they will have issues on a smaller cam. I am also looking at some Lingerfelter cams and the TPIS cams as other options for this combo.
If youre changing intakes later on a 195 comp head would be the ticket for real good hp on a 350. Capable of well over 500hp with a solid roller
When I say 350HP to me that is the limti of what he will ever feel int his car. It might see 500 before he comes of age. MY DD is a 6000 lb Harley F150 pushing 650 at the wheels and I am looking for a peppy 3100 lb car to see plenty of power but also be able to limit the power as the kids gains experience and confidence.
I think the AFR 1041 is the correct 195cc head and it is about 1500 new. It has a square exhaust port while I think the vette is D shaped - will this be an issue with either header?
My headers are noticeably larger than the port: gasket seals all is good.
