My driver side window rolls half way down at normal speed and then stops. It can then be rolled all the way back up at normal speed. Is it possible that something is binding up and preventing it from rolling all the way down that would not require a whole new regulator to be installed? It seems as if it wants to go down further but cant for some reason. Thanks!!!
Hi, yes it could be your window guides, or the regulator that are clogged up with junk. Your best bet is to remove the door panel and inspect for areas that need lubrication.
WD-40 loses 99% of it's lubrication properties when it evaporates. It's great stuff, but not for lubrication. I'd try some plain old wheel bearing grease on the end of a long Q-tip swab.
CAUTION: There is a real and present danger that some lube (whatever you use) will find its way onto your wife's/girlfriend's clothing. I'd buy her a bouquet of flowers first just to try to get points ahead when you get blamed for the grease spot.
I fixed it!!! Woo hoo! There was a plug that connects two sections of wiring harness that was swinging freely and the window was catching on it once it got half way down. I removed the door panel and speaker box and looked inside when the window stopped. I then zip tied the plug tightly to the inside of the door panel to keep it out of the way. I also cleaned and lubed all moving parts while I was in there. About 1.75 hours and everything was back together and working great! I am so glad I didn't take it to my mechanic and did it myself!
