Ok guys so here's what I'm trying to do I want to get a manual for my 84 the t-56 to be exact but I eventually want to build a new engine considering that while I'm taking out the tranny should I just dump the old engine and try and find more of a package deal with the ls1 and the t-56 PCM and as many random stuff for the swap. Another reason why I am considering doing this is tht the ls1 can make power easier then my l-83 lmao but it the end would it be more worth it to just build a suped up 383 and get a t-56 or try and find a package deal ( I've been seeing a couple sell lately around my area ) on the ls1 and t-56
And i plan on getting a dana 44 either way
What would be more cost efficient in the end cause I plan on eventually build up the ls1 anyway
Is the weight difference alot better??
Is the gas mileage alot better vs a 383 with let's say a HSR??
Hi, I would definitely recommend putting in an LS1, that is just a godly motor, and a t56 will bolt right up no problem considering the fact that they come with it. Just take everything over from the other car. That motor comes with 350 horsepower already, well some years of that motor, and its very easy to build off of that. My father has a 2004 corvette and that car is just bad to the bone! You can still put a stroker kit in it too to make it bigger, just search for an ls1 kit. But that motor is so strong you may not even want to add anything else to it after you put it in. A c5 corvette is fast enough for me, I wouldn't need anything faster. If only my 85 was that fast. :/
Overall, regardless of anything else I 100% recommend that motor. And never sacrifice performance for gas mileage. Also the weight of that motor won't really matter that is gonna scare you the first time you hit the gas.
Haha thanks for the info I am highly considering the ls1 but a rebuild on one is crazy if I wanted to make it a 383 or something else it would be like twice the price of building up a gen I block I think with the roller rockers of course but can't you push more power easier with the ls1 and if anybody could chime in with some more info it would be GREATLY appreciated
Thanks for your time

If you're truly set on swapping with an LS1/T56, you'd be better off buying a Camaro or Trans am and swapping the parts, since you'll have everything in a bundle and you'll know that it all works when you bought it. It sounds stupid to spend more for the same result, BUT if you look up all the LS1 swap threads you'll see that all of them had issues because of parts that didn't work from the get-go. Don't think that you live in a fairytale land where everything works form the box... there absolutely will be problems that will drive you nuts! One member just finished up his a few months ago... it took him over 2 years of troublshooting, and working on it almost every weekend. this is absolutely no small task. Not a cheap one either...
Now, if you want to swap to a manual, that's not a bad idea. Sure the crossfire engines seem to make no power, but they are still performers, and the lack of power might come to your advantage for a swap. I attend autocross events from time to time and at a recent event there was a STOCK automatic 84 with 315 tires that was KILLING the competition of brand new BMW M3s, Porsches, and so on. The 84 ran faster times than a new ZR1, but that comes down to driver skill. These things are performers, don't let the engine hold you back.
