Since I do not drive my 1994 six speed coupe everyday, I am noticing different things about it when I do drive it. I had the chance to drive it a few nights ago because the daily driver Grand Am became very noisy after going through a rough spot in the road. The exhaust split at the cat converter. At any rate, after driving the Corvette and parking it in the garage, i shut off the headlights and heard a whirring - for lack of a better word - sound from under the hood. After a quick look it appears that the headlights have a cone shaped device that spins as the headlights go up and down. This device is the source of the noise and i was wondering if 1 - I was hurting anything and 2 - am I in need of the motor rebuild using the bronze bushings?? The headlights are going up and down with no issue, just this motor device running after they go into the closed position. This is probably a common issue with our rides and I am sure someone else has gone through it before. Thanks in advance for all input.

The motor itself is okay. Your problem is the bushings. They are probably gone. I recently rebuilt my friends headlight on her 94. It was doing exactly what you described. I pulled it apart and the bushing came out as sawdust.....nothing there. I replaced the bushings and the gear. I used the nylon gear. The gear is cheap. I would rather have the teeth on the nylon gear strip off than screw up the motor itself. The motors are expensive and not worth the chance of a bronze gear eating it up.

If you do a search, there are several posts recently about rebuilding the headlights. There is a YouTube video out there of a guy rebuilding his 94 Vette headlight and it is very good.
