Default Passenger Window

My passenger window will go down but not up on my 1993. It works fine using the switch from the drivers side. I put a new switch on the passenger side and still no go. Any ideas???

Thanks
Chris

I can think of 3 scenarios:
1. The new switch is bad
2. No power to the switch
3. No ground to the switch

ok. but it will go down so it must be getting power, wouldn't a bad ground cause it to not work at all??

Ok, I wasn't sure that it would still go down with the new switch. You are correct on both points. So, it works both ways from the drivers side switches and only one way from the passenger side, right?

When the switch is in the neutral position, the motor sees positive voltage from both sides, thus does not move. When the switch makes up in either direction, it connects that side to ground and the motor moves in that direction. So, it appears that the connection to ground in the "up" direction is not making up. Since both the old and new switches are doing the same thing, I would suspect a bad connection/wire on the "up" side of the switch.

So what is my best approach to this. What do I need to do to get it to work?

When I put the new switch in it also came with a different harness if that matters.

You either need a FSM or you need to get someone to send you a wiring diagram. I have a 95 and although the operation is the same, I'm not sure they kept the same color code.

If the harness was different, how did you connect it? The different harness can indeed make a difference, especially if it results in tying 12 volts straight to ground.

If you have a multimeter, you may be able do the following:

1. Key OFF (maybe even battery disconnected just to make sure).
2. Disconnect ONLY the wires at the window motor.
3. Set multimeter to ohms
4. Find a good ground and connect one multimeter lead to it.
5. Connect the other lead to one of the two wires from the motor. (Assuming color code has not changed, the "up" contact on the switch is connected to the dark blue wire and the "down" contact is connected to the brown wire.)
6. Flip the switch in both directions. The multimeter should read as shown in the table below:

lead location switch position ohms
dark blue neutral Open
dark blue up 0.0
dark blue down Open

Brown neutral Open
Brown up Open
Brown down 0.0

I've never tried this before, but looking at the wiring diagram, I think it will work. Just make sure there is no power to the switch or you might get a big surprise.
