I have a 1991 coupe model that seems to have a faulty temp sensor and the check engine light comes on. I think it is a temperature sensor because during the drive in the morining while it is cooler, the light doesn't come on. In the heat of the afternoon it does come on. The engine guage however reads relatively cool even though the light comes on. Are there 2 different sensors?

Yes
The temp gauge sender is completely independent from the coolant temp sensor (CTS ) that sends the engine temp
signal to the computer that generates the SES light.
