During the recent NE crab cruise, I finally got to drive my car on the highway at let's say, speeds slightly above the limit! I usually only drive it out in the country for 1/2 hour, once or twice aweek. While on the NJ turnpike and 295, when I hit areas where there are ruts (like from trucks on heavily travelled areas) I experienced severe difficulty in keeping the car in my own lane. Scared the crap out of me in a few places. My question is: Is this normal? I have a 91 convertible, with 95,000 miles on it. The tires that are on it are some Japanese brand - Yokomoto or something like that. Any opinions would be welcome. Thanks! :seeya

Re: Handling question (ladyinblack)
Nice 4 wheel alignment will help a lot. Take it to a place that knows Corvettes.
Also loose wheel bearings will magnify this issue, have the play checked.
Also check tire pressure, around 30 psi will provide less tracking. However 35 psi will provide better performance, but greater attention to the steering wheel. All in all, however, you should not have to work very hard to maintain track with the proper alignment. Stock alignment specs are very forgiving.
Thanks, PeteL. It supposedly had an all wheel alignment last summer. ( I dropped it off, didn't actually see it done) I'll be taking it in for an oil change soon, I'll have them go over the bearings.
But what I'm really looking for, is this common on vettes because of the wide tires? Are they supposed to grab the highway like that?
my 90 vert used to do what you said, i changed my shocks and had an alignment , and providing all the rubber bushings are good, that did the trick for my car. also check your tires, for a fact certain tread patterns get more sucked into certain road changes, hope that helps you out! :D

This is definately a known issue with vettes/cars with wide tires. There are some things you can do to help, but its always gonna be like that, the wider your tires the more theyre gonna track the road.
