1990 Headlight motor repair
1. Removed the assy from the car
I first reviewed the instructions a photos. This is a well documented procedure. But, I thought there was too much work required so while inspecting the assy I discovered there is no reason to demount the motor from the assy.
2. There is only one reason to demount the motor and that's because one of the motor gear cover screws is slightly blocked by the motor mounting bracket. So, I got the trusty dremel out with a grinding bit and removed about 1/16" from the bracket and removed all three cover screws and removed the cover. That motor mount is way over built and can afford to lose a bit to allow the cover to be removed without demounting the motor.
3. I tapped out the spring pin from the gear shaft.
4. Lightly tapped the gear shaft and the gear and shaft came right out.
5. Cleaned up all the delrin bushing trash, lubricated and installed the new delrin bushings and reinserted the gear in the motor making sure the washers were all back in the right place. Mine had two against the inside bearing on one against the outside under the cover.
6. Put the linkage block back on and installed the spring pin.
7. Remounted the assy on the hood and voila! It works like a champ.
30 minutes. No need to remove the motor from the mount.
