I have THIS in my Powerstroke Excursion. I have a modified stock tune, high idle, 2 towing tunes, economy tune and a smoke tune. All switchable on the fly. I even have a Position 0 which is a "No Start"
Wow thats elaborate. The two timer from Moates will allow me to switch from 2 programs on one chip with a toggle switch. Everything stays in the ECM. Only $30.

Ah, but did you see that I have not only that many tunes but I can get email tunes and load them onto the system with my laptop? So say when I got my injectors which were larger single shots as opposed to the split shots, I could get a tune emailed to me so I can get it running, datalog or whatever?

Sounds like a relay sticking. The chip doesn't have any moving parts. It's just firmware.
I must say again that the first thing I had done was replace the computer...but it seems that not many of you think it could be the chip? I will also say again that I am no mechanic, not even an amateur one! If its the relay, is that something I can check ? Where would it be? Or should I take it back to my mechanic and have him check that before I scrape up the money for a chip? Thanks again!

I just don't see how tapping on an ECM would make a chip suddenly work. On the other hand, the ECM has relays in it. If I were you, I would troubleshoot the check engine light. What code is it throwing? Then use the shop manual troubleshooting tree to determine the cause.
I had a "tapping on the ECM" problem. My car would just die while driving down the street and then come back to life a few (sometimes more than a few) seconds later.
I fixed it by spraying contact cleaner on the connectors. That's something that is cheap to try before getting more drastic.
