I have a 1993 Vette with the Bose Gold audio system. We thought the speaker was bad since the speaker was hissing and had very low volume. It would hiss with the volume turned all the way down. Went to Vette Pros in Charlotte NC and we hooked up a used speaker he had in stock. It did not fix the problem. We changed the AMP in the storage compartment it did not fix the problem. He stated it must be in the radio. Any thoughts on this?
Each Bose speaker has its own amplifier. When they work, they sound great. My 1990 and 1991 have a "hybrid" system that uses a JVC double din radio with the existing Bose speakers. I had to have several of the amps rebuilt/replaced when I made the swap but its been two years and both systems are going strong. Not taking anything away from Vette Pros, you may want to check the speaker enclosure (speaker and amp) one more time. You can easily do this by swapping the left front speaker/amp with right front speaker/amp. They are not aesthetically interchangeable (the housing are different) but the internals and plugs are the same. Swap the hissing speaker to the other side. If its still hissing and the good one performs well on the opposite side, you may have found your problem.
I thought about doing that, Vette Pros said they checked the speaker out and it was good but I may double check by swapping out the drivers side to make double sure. Thanks for the input.
94 rear bose did the same. It was the amp board in one of them. I switched them to check. Common problem with Bose systems. Factory car stereo in Fl rebuilt amp for $80Works great-now if I could get CD player to work!

Regarding your cd player, try Ecklers, I believe they have a refurbish service, I know they do for your amps and they are close to you (cheap shipping) I lived in Atlanta and my cd went out , I took it to Seedometer Service Company in Roswell, Ga. Don't know if they are in business still , Phone # 770-569-8255. Sure miss those trips to P C Beach.
Is there more than one Ecklers? The one I am familar with will rape you on shipping and handling (fondling).
There are 2 small capacitors in the center of the amp board, C6 & C7 or C7 & C8 - I don't remember. They are the same value. The are electrolytics and they dry out. They are the source of your hiss in all likelihood. Two caps and a roll of solder wick will run you less than $10 at the electronics store. The caps themselves are about a quarter on bulk.
My CD won't load a disc. I was planning on cracking it open, then saw a thread that recommended a good MP3 player/transmitter for under $50, so I think I am going to go with that rather than mess with CDs.
You can fix all four amps for about $35, 4-5 hours of time, and very little mechanical ability. Send me a pm if you can't find anything via searching and I'd be glad to help.
