Default Dash issue, this one is different!

Ok, so at idle the dash randomly will just light up most of the led's. It all goes bright and the numbers read completely erratically. This only lasts a fraction of a second and then its normal again. At speed it seems fine. I thought it may be the alternator, It bench tested fine. I even ran the car at idle on battery alone with the alternator completely disconnected, the dash did the same thing. The weird part is a good quality, known good DVOM clipped onto the battery or the alternator reads gibberish in time with the dash reading gibberish. Stumped!

I was doing some interior work on mine, and came across a ground located about where your left shin would be, (on the kick panel) if you were sitting in the drivers seat. (Under the carpet) For some reason I ended up turning the key on, with that ground disconnected, and my dash was doing exactly what you are describing. I cleaned the ground, and hooked it back up, and all was well again. h

Default Thanks for the tip but..

Checked that ground as well as every other one there is. Completely disassembled and rewired the ground on the bell housing too. Ran a new ground strap. New cap and rotor and rerouted ignition wires. (Did find some arcing btw), all the arcing is fixed now. Ran a dedicated ground directly to the battery. Battery, cables, grounds, and meter are all known good. Checked at Batee.com. Followed his suggestions. Dash still wonky at idle, and volt meter on battery and/ or alternator still reads gibberish in sync with the dash. Where is the ghost hiding?
