Trying to help family, base 50K 1990; cable is stretched and frayed. I drove it last year and didn't notice unusual pedal effort? Does this sound like a throttle body issue stressing the cable? I don't have C4 manuals and wondering if I can put a universal cable in the housing and reuse the ends, all of which are in good shape? Any issues getting it off the pedal and thru the firewall? Its an original car and we don't want to do the Lokar thing.
Contact one of the members currently parting out a car and get a cable from them. The bracket is either bolted or pop riveted to the firewall, looks pretty easy to replace, then re seal.
The cable has a clip that clips into the firewall. It is a bear to remove. I dremeled mine of when I replaced the cable. I bought a new one they are not expensive. The easiest way is to remove the pedal.
GL with it
Bought a used one on ebay, did the head stand thing under the dash (hope you have a convertible). Its like getting a prostate exam, helps if you can find someone with small fingers to do it. The plastic housing at the firewall has depressable tabs that I could not see let alone touch. Cut the cable and removed enough housing to pull it thru the inside.
I'm guessing significant interior disassembly would be required to remove one intact.
