Hey there does anyone know if the knock sensor has coolant passing into it or is the coolant just leaking from where it is screwed in. I see a small coolant drip on the end. Anyways I went to remove it to check it out and there is a shield or something below it and mounting to the oil pan blocking me. I guess I have Knock Block! Can I remove that shield by just the 2 screws on oil pan then get to the knock sensor. Trying to forge ahead.
Thanks

Should only have to undo the nuts leaving the studs in place

The KS is just screwed into the block.
IF you are lucky there will be a ton of crud behind it blocking the hole so you won't get drenched with coolant when you remove it to reseal
There is no passage way into the sensor for coolant. It is closed and just screws into the block. take off the two nuts and you can get to the sensor. Squeeze the electrical plug to remove it.
Why would it need to be sensor safe? Isn't that reserved for gases that will pass the O2?
I'd teflon tape it with white non hardening permatex goo.
If you don't use sensor safe sealant it won't allow it to ground to the block, the same with teflon tape...Knock sensor has a single wire so the ground is the block....WW

Good thought, I never thought of that? See, you can teach an old dog new tricks. Mine has teflon tape and works, but I must have got lucky.

Yep, sometimes the threads cut through the tape far enough and make contact with the block, but sometimes they don't.....It's best to only put a small amount of sealant further up the threads instead of covering them. If you leave the tip of the threads clean without sealant it will make contact at that point and you won't have any trouble......WW
