Default Auto or ZF slip yoke?

I just procured a (ZF trans) DS (without slipyoke) for my D44 conversion in my auto vette. Do I need the ZF slip yoke or an auto slip yoke? Not sure if the ZF tailshaft is the same as the 700r4. I assume they are a spicer part? Any part numbers would be helpful also. Thanks!

... You need the slip yoke for YOUR transmission ... ZF tailshaft is much larger than the 700R4 ... is there something wrong with the one you have now ?.............

You can use the short TH400 yoke. They are both 32 spline same diameter. That is what I actually used with my solid axle conversion when I had a new driveshaft made.

My local driveshaft shop sells spicer parts. The zf yoke is no longer available. They had a long TH400 yoke which they cut off for me

Just read the original post again. Use the auto yoke on the dana 44 driveshaft if you are just doing the 36 to 44 conversion.

The D44 driveshaft is shorter but has same 1310 uni's; the yoke only changes with a trans swap

Got it, I will use the auto (700r4) slip yoke. I shortened my original in an attempt to use my D36 DS. It worked but I am getteng a clunking noise which from what I have been able to track down, is coming from the tail shaft of the trans. My trans builder (RPM trans) said it may be caused from the lack of clearance at the end of tailshaft and inside of yoke after cutting it down. There is maybe an 1/8 from the end of tail shaft to the bottom of the slip yoke. I didn't think it would hurt anything because of the C-beam design.I am getting a clunk noise around 45 mph in overdive (sweet spot). Doesn't do it in drive when the rpm's keep the drive train "loaded". Only trying to maintain that speed in OD does it happen, If I drive through it or keep a load on the drivtrain it's fine. Hope all that makes sense I checked everything else and couldn't find anything. My u-joints are all new Spicers.
So my next question: Does anyone have an auto slip yoke for sale

The std GM 27 spline slip yoke ( for once not a unique Vette item ) used on almost every trans except TH400 and early PG's.
Only need to check one has the correct uni size.

uni = u/joint (universal) you need a 1310 but I believe you know that!

Are you wanting to do a new slip-yoke or are you reusing yours? What is the actual diference center to center of the drive-shaft you had shortened when compared to the D44 that you bought?

Interesting... I mic'd a ZF6 and T400 yoke, and they both measured 1.886". They were the same.

I guess I read the thread wrong also, so this really doesn't apply to the OP.

Apparently the difference is on internal dimension (splines ) hence Dave's comment about the 400 yoke being loose fitting on the ZF splines.

Not sure Dave, It just shipped out yesterday and I haven't got mine out of the car yet. I didn't have the DS shortened. I cut an inch off the auto slip yoke. Although it fit and worked fine for awhile because I had grease on the end of the tail shaft. My trans guy seems to think once the grease moved out it lost it's cushion and the tolerance between the tail shaft and bottom of slip yoke is only 1/8" . I didn't think this would be a issue with the C-beam not allowing any fore/aft movement of the DS. Trans builder seems to think there is enough flex to allow it to bottom out etc. This is all just a theory because I can't find anything else wrong. I don't mind doing the swap because I should have done it this way to begin with but the D-44 complete rebuild and gears broke my wallet. If it doesn't fix the issue not sure where to turn next. I will get the new DS balanced and all new universals with install. Thanks all for the help guys.

P.S. Dave, this is where you tell me I should have got a manual DS to begin with. or "I told you so"
