I have read you can carefully cut the screens on your MAF sensor for better performance. The whole plenum side screen of my MAF fell out, should I try and secure it back into the body or not worry about it? I dont care about the "added" performance, just how the car runs and if it will cause any damage. I havent noticed any difference either way but I just reworked the heads and its a little different anyway.

I have removed the screens from the maf i used to have, it made no difference at all nor when i installed a new maf with the screens no performance changes. The screens are there to direct the air correctly onto the sensor wire, from what i have read on this forum.

Long time ago there was a great discussion about the added CFM's from removing the screens.
Then more discussions about how the screens helped straighten airflow.
And even more discussions about ...... Airfoils !
Leave em in if you got em. Performance and protection both benefit.

As you've noted, there probably won't be any improvement. It won't cause damage to leave the aft screen out either.
Laminar flow is still better with the front screen in place...so I'd leave it in -- especially since (unless) your motor isn't significantly modified.
Removing the screens won't make enough difference to notice.
That said, I remember reading a post from somebody who replaced his screenless MAF with one that had screens because the lack of screens messed up the fuel calibrations in the ECM. It's a subtle difference, but real if you're looking closely at how well your engine is running.
I removed my screens and put in an airfoil back in the '80s because that was the hot deal back in those days. The MAF in my car now has screens.
Thanks for the input. I just wondered if I HAD to put it back. Sounds like it wont matter much either way. The front (air cleaner side) screen is still in place and I will leave it there. My engine is completely stock down to the 462624 heads. To me my car is a DD. Ive owned it 5 years and havent done any mods but never rule anything out!. Well except the AIR elim and your TB coolant bypass mod Gregg.
And Wow, never thought I would be called a "TPI pig" by a Crossfire!!! Talk about a pig!

Take no offense in that considering the source....happy motoring......screen or screenless........

Dude I have a crossfire and a TPI. They are both great cars. My TPI runs out of breath at 4800 rpm, but my crossfire revs well past that(renegade intake).
