I have one to sell. PM Me.
I liked it because it reduced the drone. I couldn't really tell if it made a difference because I put high performance mufflers on it.
I went to true dual exhaust, and I have the mufflers for sale also.
Has anyone purchased and have an opinion on a a so-called high prformace rear "Y" pipe with a cross over tube on a 1990 convertable?
Thanks!
Hi
I had an exhaust shop install a crossover pipe after my new mufflers were installed, it barely changed a thing still droned till i got a second hand set of ''standard" mufflers.
if you are running the stock exhaust manifolds OR the stock front Y...the rear pipe can be in the garage and it won't help !
You have to get the exhaust system "right" from the engine back...starting at the manifolds. I'd begin with either LT manifolds OR some brand of header, matters not since ANY header is a huge improvement over the L98 ex manifolds that actually block the ex port.
Ex manifolds, then a frt Y pipe, big main cat free flow type then whatever big Y you want.
The magic happens up front tho...

I wouldn't dump any LT header on it. Some of them are easy to work with like TPIS (but they are proud of them). Install easy and you can easily get to the plugs. Others, well...... I had a set of headers on my F-body that you would have to take the starter to get at #8 and maybe #6. That or be a Dr Reed Richards of the Fantastic 4.
I do know that I put in the intakes and exhaust on my F-body but it wasn't really good till Lingenfelter reprogrammed the EPROM. Not sure if the headers really help much without the reprogram but others will chime in.

This is about the 3rd or 4th post I have seen about the LT1 manifolds being better than the L98 manifolds. They are the same. The only difference is after the shorty headers. The front y pipe on the L98's have pre cats which creates some restriction. Replace the front y-pipe with one that doesn't have pre cats and replace the main cat. And to add, the L98 exhaust system design is used as a race exhaust platform due to the excellent scavenging effect at the front y.

Sorry, but no way in hell are the stock L-98 tube headers equal to the LT-1 manifolds.

Put one on my stock '87 when I replaced the system..has no effect on performance but can reduce resonating at cruising speed. Would not
bother unless system needs replacing.

Back on topic - if you need mufflers, get a set of Flowmaster direct replacement mufflers (425501-L and 425501-R). They also have a very nice rear y-pipe. No drone with that setup and a nice rumble out the back.
Drone is annoying, but it's something that really isn't that big of a deal.
The "performance" pipe is probably just bigger with smoother bends. Unless the one you have currently is rusted out, out wouldn't bother. As noted before, the headers are BY FAR the most constrictive part of your car. You can do whatever you want to the rest of the exhaust and it won't make a difference with those headers bolted up. First thing is those headers.
Flowmasters are always nice. I have them on my 91 L98 (well, it's not an L98 anymore.... or a stock exhaust....so on an so on) and I love them. Very little drone. Keeps nice and rumbly on the low end with a nice "I'm going to kill you" sound over 2k. Beautiful.
