my 94 lt1 has had its compuater replaced with an Ac Delco one, and has never really been the same. Firstly, I think that my new computer isresponsible for my stock a You can drive it for about 30 minutes in city traffic on the average summer day in california....then it starts surging when you're stopped at lights (if I put it in neutral on my a4 it seems to help a bit when stopped at lights). The when you accelerate off the line, sometimes it stumbles as if it's in too high of a gear (feels like starting in third in an m6). It also has trouble upshifting when the rpms hit 6k while I'm flooring it when it's acting up/surging/stumbling. If it starts to stumble and I give it some gas, it downshifts and begins driving normally. Now this always happens after the engine is given a chance to heat up (about 30 mins) but the thing is that the oil temp. is always normal, and often the car starts acting up when the engine temp is fairly normal, also. THis stuff doesn't happen all the time, just on fairly warm (75+) days when I do 20-30 mins of stop and go city driving. I'm thinking the root of the problem might be the computer or a wire coming from it getting pyhsically hot?????? Any suggestions? Is there any heat wrap or something I might be able to try to insulate the computer with?
These kinds of problems are hard to diagnose unless you actually get to drive the car...it could be anything from bad ECM, bad plugs, bad EGR or even a bad trans ( hanging in third ) or torque converter ( hanging locked ).
Just keep everything in mind until you can devise a way of eliminating all the variables.
Yeah, I've been working on this one for awhile....I think it's definately got to do with the ECM or some wires becoming hot, cause the car runs beautifully most of the time.
