if its vented and you can adapt the plug to it, then yes. It does nothing more than open or close. The voltage signal will be the same.
From all I've read, the 1985-89 solenoid was NO (normally open on the vacuum port). I verified this with my '86, though now I no longer use egr. For 1984 and 1990-up, the solenoid is NC (normally closed on the vacuum port).
That means the ground signal (circuit completion) that activates the solenoid will close the vacuum port if you use the '85, and it will remain open (activating the egr valve) when the signal is missing, or even if you pull the wires off. The '84 will be closed (and the valve will be shut off) until it sees the ground signal for activation. So it sounds to me like you should spring for that '84 solenoid Cliff shows --- and test it first by just holding it in your hand and seeing if you can blow through it. On my '86 solenoid the air passes through. On yours it shouldn't.
