My 92 LTI developed a miss 2 weeks ago, cleared up after driving about a mile. No issues intil 1 week ago, miss reappears this time didn't go away. Went the spark plug and wire route. Opti is next. Ordered a new water pump and opti. Getting ready for the parts to arrive, I pulled water pump and opti and crank damper. Being cautious, I marked the top of the damper, but in my efforts to remove it, the mark is GONE. Does the damper have to go on the same position it came off ? Working on a 1992 LTI. If this doesn't fix the miss, whats next ? Thanks for any help.

The damper will only go on one way due to the bolt spacing. Other possible causes of misfire would be low compression, plugged or shorted injector, vacuum leak, but ignition problems related to ignition wires or opti are more common. Make absolutely sure you did not cross some plug wires when you replaced them, very easy to do, good luck.
Well, the new opti is going in. Already removed the everything in the way. I can't believe how difficult it is was to change plugs and wires. I removed what appears to be a vintage 92 waterpump (new one waiting to go in). The opti I removed has no name or markings on it at all. If these items don't fix it, I may need professional help, for me NOT the car.

How'd the opti look inside? I had an intermittant miss/stumble when I decided to do mine... at first I was dead set against replacing the entire Opti and only doing the cap and rotor (even with the work involved getting to just those). THen I saw the inside of the opti and how much corrosion there was and what crappy shape it was really in. I was surprised it ran so well in the condition it was!
In the process of getting a reverse torx socket Hopefully it will look bad enough to justify changing. Also putting a barbed fitting and diversion tube on the WP. While I'm at it a few new hoses and t-stat.
The damper and hub also each have a mark on them - on the damper IIRC looks like a triangle and on the hub, raised mark. Line them up when you reinstall.
Here's a follow-up for the original post. Many times a thread starts and the fix never gets posted. Well......8 Bosch3 rebuilts from FIC fixed the problem. Aprox 45 minutes of labor, reattach the battery and a quick test drive reveals that my miss or stutter or whatever is gone. I took the long way around thanks to some bad advice from friends, but it finally runs great. It only took new plugs, new wires, new opti, of course a new water pump, a new alternator (don't ask),new tps, new map sensor and a new iac, a bunch of hours of swollen hand, an unknown quantity of Sam Adams and few weeks replaying the options over and over. Thanks FIC (Fuel Injector Connection) for great product at a reasonable price. My neighbor had three injectors replaced by one of the local parts changers for almost $500 w/labor.
Well good work. I hope you held on to that original opti. Some of the aftermarket ones, (not sure what you put in) are less than optimal. You can probably clean your old one up a bit an keep it for a back up.
